Chief Executive Officer and President

Christopher Hall, Chief Executive Officer and President, joined Personalis in October 2022 as Senior Vice President and Head, Diagnostics Business. As CEO and President, Hall drives the vision and strategy for the Company, including commercializing its diagnostic product offerings. Hall brings over 20 years of experience in general management and product development within the diagnostics industry, most recently as CEO of Naring Health, Inc. Previously, he served as President, COO, and Chief Commercial Officer at Veracyte, Inc., where he led the company’s commercial entry into endocrinology and pulmonology and scaled its operational groups. Hall also served as SVP and Chief Business Officer at Berkeley HeartLab, Inc. (part of Celera Corporation), where he helped a new product launch and restructured operations to improve profitability and streamline delivery of services. Hall holds a BA in political science and economics from DePauw University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Aaron Tachibana joined Personalis as Chief Financial Officer in March 2019, with more than fifteen years of executive financial management experience at large, medium, and small cap public and private companies. He was promoted to Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer in 2021. Following the retirement of John West in December 2022, he served as Interim CEO until March 2023. Prior to Personalis, Mr. Tachibana was Chief Financial Officer at Lumentum from August 2015 to September 2018. Lumentum is a publicly listed optical and photonics company that was a spin out from JDSU. From November 2013 to July 2015, he was Vice President of Finance, Corporate Controller for JDSU, a public company with $1.7 billion in annual revenues. Prior to JDSU, Mr. Tachibana was Chief Financial Officer at Pericom Semiconductor from March 2010 to October 2013, a publicly listed semiconductor company that provided high-performance connectivity and timing solutions. From 1992 to 2010, he held executive and senior management positions with Asyst Technologies, Inc., Allied Telesis, Inc., TapCast Inc. and TeraStor Corporation. Mr. Tachibana holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Finance from San Jose State University, and is a graduate of General Electric’s Financial Management Program.

Executive Vice President, R&D, and Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Chen joined Personalis in November 2011 as Chief Scientific Officer, and was promoted to Senior Vice President R&D, and Chief Medical Officer in 2021. A physician scientist, Dr. Chen has extensive expertise in systems biology, translational genomics, knowledge engineering, and scientific product development. Dr. Chen has co-founded and served on the board of several companies, including Ingenuity Systems, where he led the development of systems biology approaches to genomic data analysis for scientific discovery. Dr. Chen has also served on the clinical faculty at Stanford University School of Medicine where he led process and technology innovation for improved health care delivery. Dr. Chen received a BS in Computer Science from Stanford, and a MD from Stanford University School of Medicine. He also received a MS in biomedical informatics from Stanford. He completed his Chief Residency and Dermatology Specialty Training at Stanford and is board certified.

Dr. Haudenschild joined Personalis in early 2012 to build the company’s professional services department. Prior to this role he was an Associate Director in charge of commercial sequencing at Illumina Inc. in Hayward, California. His team was responsible for the preparation and next-generation sequencing of thousands of DNA and RNA samples. Dr. Haudenschild was previously the Senior Manager of Technical Accounts at Lynx Therapeutics (which later became Solexa, Inc. and which was later acquired by Illumina). At Lynx and Solexa he was involved in developing the first massively parallel protocols for the study of small RNA and DNA. In 1995, he received his Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Enzymology from the University Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg, France after completing a Master’s degree in 1989. He completed his postdoctoral research in Molecular Biology at Washington State University, Pullman from 1995 to 1997 and at the University of California at Berkeley from 1997 to 1999.

Stephane leads the Business Development team at Personalis. Previously, Stephane was at Illumina where he led Illumina’s companion diagnostic partnerships with pharmaceutical companies in oncology, the international expansion of NIPT (Non Invasive Prenatal Testing) and Illumina’s venture investments in start-ups such as Twist (synthetic biology) and Boreal Genomics (liquid biopsy), for which he served as Illumina-appointed board observer. Prior to Illumina, Stephane was at Caliper Lifesciences for 15 years. He developed and launched several microfluidic DNA and protein testing products that became standards in genomic laboratories today, and he led corporate development for Caliper. Stephane holds a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Strasbourg University, France.

Deepshikha Bhandari offers over 20 years of multifaceted global regulatory leadership spanning digital health, genomics, companion diagnostics, and high risk medical devices. As SVP of Regulatory, Quality and Clinical Compliance at Personalis, she leverages her extensive experience to secure regulatory approvals for Personalis’ innovative oncology testing worldwide. Deepshikha most recently drove regulatory strategies for multi-cancer early detection products as Vice President of Regulatory Affairs at GRAIL. Her previous roles also include serving as Vice President of Regulatory Affairs at Roche Diagnostics, where she led regulatory efforts for novel sequencing IVDs and software platforms. With a proven track record driving global regulatory submissions and shaping innovative regulatory frameworks for cutting-edge technologies, Deepshikha lends crucial expertise to advance Personalis’ mission of enabling patient access to genomic testing globally. Her pioneering leadership helps clear regulatory pathways for emerging diagnostic areas as she partners closely with agencies worldwide.

Stephen Moore joined Personalis as General Counsel in April 2020, with more than twenty years in-house legal experience at advanced genomics companies. Prior to joining Personalis, he was General Counsel at Pacific Biosciences, a publicly listed company and pioneer in the field of single molecule, long read DNA sequencing, where he worked for over a decade. Prior to Pacific Biosciences, Mr. Moore was General Counsel at Navigenics, a venture-backed startup and consumer genomics pioneer that was later acquired by Life Technologies (now part of Thermo Fisher Scientific). Prior to Navigenics, he worked for over eight years at DNA microarray pioneer Affymetrix (which was also later acquired by Thermo Fisher Scientific), where he was most recently an Associate General Counsel. Mr. Moore holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from San Jose State University, and a law degree from the University of California, Davis.

James Azzaro joined Personalis in April 2022 as Vice President of Diagnostic Sales with over 20 years experience as a commercial leader in the oncology molecular diagnostics industry. Throughout his career, James has led sales teams for public and private companies through multiple product launches and periods of significant volume and revenue growth. Prior to joining Personalis, James was Chief Commercial Officer for Predicine, a private oncology focused molecular laboratory from 2021-2022. James held the position of National Sales Director at Guardant Health from 2017-2021, a publicly traded oncology molecular laboratory. James started his career with Myriad genetics, a publicly traded genetics laboratory where he held multiple commercial positions from 2002- 2017.

Donald Brown, the Vice President of Laboratory Operations at Personalis, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his role. With a career spanning over two decades, Don has held leadership positions at several prominent companies in the biotechnology and life sciences industry. Don’s extensive background includes his recent tenure as Senior Director of Clinical Operations, MRD | TissueNEXT at Guardant Health, where he played a crucial role in driving the company's clinical operations. Prior to that, he served as Director of Laboratory and Systems Operations at 23andMe, overseeing the company's laboratory processes and systems. Throughout his career, Don has demonstrated a strong track record of launching successful products and optimizing laboratory operations. His experience at Thermo Fisher Scientific as Director of Molecular Biology, Research Services, and his earlier roles at Affymetrix, Applied Biosystems, Celera and Sagres Discovery, highlight his proficiency in high-throughput biology and genomics. Don’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of California, Davis, with an emphasis on molecular and cellular biology. With his extensive experience and proven leadership skills, Donald Brown is well-positioned to drive innovation and operational excellence at Personalis.

Stephen Fairclough, Vice President of Informatics at Personalis, brings over 20 years of experience leading diverse teams in scientific discovery, product development, clinical operations, and commercialization. Prior to joining Personalis, Stephen held key leadership roles at Guardant Health, where he was instrumental in the development and FDA approval of the Guardant 360 cdx product, directed the development and validation of the Guardant360 TissueNext product and led a cross-functional team in the development of a high-throughput SARS-CoV-2 test under FDA Emergency Use Authorization. Stephen's extensive background in research and testing includes his work at the Joint Genome Institute as a Computational Biologist Postdoctoral Fellow, where he developed novel methods for haplotype assembly and characterized genetic diversity in various species. He also served as an Associate Professor at California State University, East Bay, where he incorporated genetic and developmental concept assessments into the curriculum. With his mission-driven leadership, accomplished track record in growing teams, and charismatic communication skills, Stephen is a valuable addition to the Personalis team. His expertise in bioinformatics, oncology research, and product development will contribute to Personalis' ongoing efforts in advancing precision medicine for cancer patients.

Ken Brunt is a seasoned executive with over two decades of experience in operations and client services within the healthcare and diagnostics industries. Currently serving as the Vice President of Client Experience at Personalis, Inc., Ken brings a wealth of expertise in optimizing operational efficiency and enhancing customer satisfaction. Prior to joining Personalis, Ken spent 12 years at Veracyte, Inc., where he most recently held the position of Senior Vice President of Operations. In this role, he led a team of 250+ professionals, managing CLIA laboratories, client services, and billing operations for a global diagnostics company. Throughout his career, Ken has demonstrated a talent for building and optimizing client-focused processes, successfully managing large-scale relocations, and maintaining high employee retention rates. His experience includes developing and customizing CRM systems, implementing operational KPIs, and swiftly adapting to challenging circumstances such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Ken's expertise in partner relationship management, business process improvement, and customer support makes him a valuable asset in driving Personalis's commitment to exceptional client experiences in the field of advanced genomic testing.

Karin Eastham has served on our board since September 2019. Ms. Eastham has over 35 years of experience in financial and operations management, primarily in life sciences companies. Ms. Eastham serves as a director for 3 additional public biotechnology companies, Nektar Therapeutics, Geron Corporation, and Veracyte, Inc. Her former public directorships include Illumina, Inc., MorphoSys AG (based in Munich, Germany), and Amylin Pharmaceuticals. Ms. Eastham’s career includes her service as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer and Trustee of the Burnham Institute for Medical Research. She also served as Senior Vice President, Finance, Chief Financial Officer, and Secretary of Diversa Corporation. She held similar positions with CombiChem, Inc., a computational chemistry company, and Cytel Corporation, a biopharmaceutical company. Ms. Eastham also held several positions, including Vice President, Finance, at BoehringerMannheim Diagnostics. Ms. Eastham received a B.S. and an M.B.A. from Indiana University and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Mr. Bowman has served on our board of directors since May 2019. Beginning in 2006, Mr. Bowman served on the board of directors of Solexa, Inc., a DNA sequencing company, until its sale to Illumina, Inc., a biotechnology company, after which Mr. Bowman continued to serve on the board of directors until May 2018. From March 1977 to August 2005, Mr. Bowman served in various roles at Dionex Corporation, a manufacturer of analytical instruments, including Chairman of the board of directors, President, and Chief Executive Officer, and he served on the board of directors until its sale to Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. in May 2011. From July 2012 to December 2015, Mr. Bowman served on the board of directors of Altera Corporation, a programmable logic devices company. Mr. Bowman holds a B.S. in Physics from Brigham Young University and an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Olivia Bloom currently serves as the Executive Vice President, Finance, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of Geron Corporation. Since joining Geron in 1994, Ms. Bloom has held several finance positions of increasing responsibility, including oversight of human resources, investor relations, lab support, purchasing and IT. During her tenure, Geron transitioned from a privately-held biotechnology company to a public one, and from discovery stage to late-stage development with two Phase 3 clinical trials in hematologic malignancies today. Over this time, Ms. Bloom has led and supported multiple equity and debt financings and business collaborations, as well as evolving the internal infrastructure to support the growth and maturity of the company. Prior to Geron, Ms. Bloom started her career in public accounting at KPMG Peat Marwick and became a Certified Public Accountant in 1994. Ms. Bloom graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of California at Berkeley. She also serves as a member of the board of directors of the Association of Bioscience Financial Officers.

Dr. Myers has served on our Board of Directors since March 2021. Dr. Myers serves as an Advisor to Lightspeed Venture Partners Inc., to the SCAN Group and to eHealth Inc. From May 2007 to December 2018, Dr. Myers served on the board of directors of Express Scripts Inc., a publicly traded health care company. From January 2018 to February 2019, Dr. Myers served as Chief Medical Officer and Chief Healthcare Strategist for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona. He has also served as the Chief Medical Officer Wellpoint Health Networks and Director of Healthcare Management for the Ford Motor Company. In the public sector he has served as the Health Commissioner of New York City and the State of Indiana. Since December 2015, Dr. Myers has served as Managing Director of Myers Ventures LLC, a healthcare consulting company. Dr. Myers holds a B.S. in Biology from Stanford University, an M.B.A. from Stanford Graduate School of Business, and an M.D. from Harvard Medical School. Dr. Myers was selected to serve on our Board of Directors because of his extensive experience in the healthcare industry, including in government and health policy roles. Dr. Myers has also been active in government, having served as physician health advisor to the United States Senate Committee on Labor and Human Resources, as Health Commissioner for his home state of Indiana, and as the Commissioner of Health for the City of New York. Dr. Myers holds a B.S. in Biological Science from Stanford University, and a medical degree (M.D.) from Harvard University. After medical school, he returned to Stanford for his internship, residency and clinical fellowship and, during this time, also completed his M.B.A. at Stanford. Dr. Myers is board-certified in internal medicine and his achievements in medical practice have earned him numerous honors including master, American College of Physicians, member, National Academy of Medicine, and fellow, American Association for Physician Leadership (formerly the American College of Physician Executives).

Ms. Shoff has served on our Board of Directors since August 2022. Ms. Shoff has served as President of Antech and Sound Diagnostics, a business unit of Mars Petcare, since April 2020. From September 2016 to April 2020, Ms. Shoff served as President of the Clinical Diagnostics Division at Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. From September 2009 to May 2016, Ms. Shoff held various positions at Henry Schein, a publicly traded health care product distributor, including Chief Executive Officer of the Global Animal Health and Strategic Partnership Group and President of the Global Healthcare Specialty Group. Ms. Shoff also held positions of increasing responsibility including the Senior Vice President & General Manager of Molecular Diagnostic and Applied Science at Roche, a Swiss multinational healthcare company, from August 1988 to September 2009. Ms. Shoff holds a B.S. in Biology from Purdue University.

Dr. Widder currently serves on the boards of QuidelOrtho Corporation and Evoke Pharma, Inc. and has over 40 years of experience working with biomedical companies, having previously served as a founder, director and/or CEO of Sydnexis, Inc., OrphoMed, Inc., Sytera, Inc., NovaCardia, Inc., Santarus, Inc., and Molecular Biosystems Inc., and as a general partner at LVP Life Science Ventures (formerly Latterell Venture Partners) and Windamere Venture Partners. He holds an MD from Northwestern University and trained in pathology at Duke University.

Russ Biagio Altman is Professor of Bioengineering, Genetics, & Medicine (and of Computer Science, by courtesy) and former Chairman of the Bioengineering Department at Stanford University. His primary research interests are in the application of computing technology to basic molecular biological problems of relevance to medicine. He is particularly interested in informatics methods for advancing pharmacogenomics, the study of how human genetic variation impacts drug response (e.g. https://www.pharmgkb.org/). Other work focuses on the analysis of functional sites within macromolecules with a focus on understanding the action, interaction, and adverse events of drugs.Dr. Altman holds an M.D. from Stanford Medical School, a Ph.D. in Medical Information Sciences from Stanford, and an A.B. from Harvard College. He has been the recipient of the U.S. Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers and a National Science Foundation CAREER Award. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Medical Informatics, and the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering. He is a past-president, founding board member, and a Fellow of the International Society for Computational Biology. He is an organizer of the annual Pacific Symposium on Biocomputing. He leads one of seven NIH-supported National Centers for Biomedical Computation, focusing on physics-based simulation of biological structures. He won the Stanford Medical School graduate teaching award in 2000. He is a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies. Dr. Altman chairs the FDA Science Board advising the Commissioner 2013-2014, and is the President-Elect of the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics.

Euan Ashley BSc (Hons), MB ChB, MRCP, DPhil, FACC, FAHA Associate Professor of Medicine (Cardiovascular), Director, Stanford Center for Inherited Cardiovascular Disease, Co-Director, Training Program in Myocardial Biology Member, Institute of Medicine Roundtable on Translating Genomic-based Research for Health Director, Stanford Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing Laboratory Leadership committee, AHA Council on Functional Genomics and Translational Biology Director, Stanford Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Center Born and raised in Scotland, Dr Ashley graduated with 1st class Honors in Physiology and Medicine from the University of Glasgow. He completed medical residency and received a PhD in molecular cardiology at the University of Oxford before moving to Stanford University where he was a Donald W. Reynolds Fellow. He trained in clinical cardiology and advanced heart failure and joined the faculty in 2006. His laboratory is focused on the application of genomics to medicine. In 2010, he led the team that carried out the first clinical interpretation of a human genome. The paper, published in the Lancet, was reported in over 300 news stories worldwide and became one of the most cited articles in clinical medicine that year. The team extended the approach in 2011 to a family of four and now routinely apply genome sequencing to the diagnosis of patients at Stanford hospital where Dr Ashley directs the Clinical Genome Service and the Center for Inherited Cardiovascular Disease. In 2013, Dr Ashley was recognized at the White House Data to Knowledge to Action event for his contributions to Personalized Medicine. Dr Ashley is a recipient of the National Innovation Award from the American Heart Association and a National Institutes of Health Director’s New Innovator Award. He is a member of the AHA Council on Functional Genomics, and the Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the National Academy of Sciences Roundtable on Translating Genomic-Based Research for Health. He is a peer reviewer for the NIH and the AHA as well as journals including the New England Journal of Medicine and the Lancet. He is co-founder of Personalis, Inc. Father to two young Americans, in his ‘spare’ time, he tries (and usually fails) to understand baseball, plays the saxophone in a jazz quartet, and conducts research on the health benefits of single malt Scotch whisky.

Michael Snyder, PhD

Michael Snyder is the Stanford Ascherman Professor and Chair of Genetics and the Director of the Center of Genomics and Personalized Medicine. Dr. Snyder received his Ph.D. training at the California Institute of Technology and carried out postdoctoral training at Stanford University. He is a leader in the field of functional genomics and proteomics. His laboratory study was the first to perform a large-scale functional genomics project in any organism, and currently carries out a variety of projects in the areas of genomics and proteomics both in yeast and humans. These include the large-scale analysis of proteins using protein microarrays and the global mapping of the binding sites of chromosomal proteins. His laboratory built the first proteome chip for any organism and the first high resolution tiling array for the entire human genome.
